Pet Insurance

Pet insurance can be helpful as your new family member grows older. Some ailments can start in young adulthood, and having pet insurance can help ease the cost of treatments needed.

We recommend taking a look at what chronic diseases or issues may arise due to your chosen breed. Click here to be directed to the AKC website, where you can search breeds and see any concerns that may arise later in life.

Cost and coverage are the top two factors when choosing a pet insurance. We encourage you to decide what is most important in coverage and move forward from there. Most plans do not cover wellness visits, because those can be planned for. A lot of pet insurance focuses on the unexpected or emergent situations, since we can't plan for illness or tragedy.

Additional factors to consider:

  • Pay attention to any waiting periods on illness or injury

  • Does the policy's deductible apply to each illness/injury separately, or is it based on a calendar year?

  • How much is the reimbursement once the deductible is met?

  • Will the monthly cost increase due to age?

  • Is there a limit to the number of claims you can submit per pet?

  • Does the policy cover prescription food?

  • Does the policy cover dietary supplements?

  • Is customer care open 24/7?
